Organic Fenugreek

Starting at: $3.50

Fenugreek isn't often found in Western cooking, and that's a shame. Its bright green leaves can be eaten raw in salads or scattered as a topping over many dishes, similar to the way fresh cilantro is used. We grow it here as microgreens for personal use, and next year (2020) will begin trialing its cultivation for sale. Our sister company (5and2farms.com) will have it at local farmer's markets and we may be able to offer seedlings for sale online as well. It's one of the few Indian spices that grows well in temperature climates as well as tropical, so would fit in well with the rest of your herbs. It also grows well as a potted plant.

Many health benefits are claimed for fenugreek, from improving lactation to helping with libido, boils and diabetes--quite a range!. We sell it as a flavorful culinary spice, not a medicine. But if it helps anyone with specific health problems, we're happy with that too!

Fenugreek is found in many commercial curry powders. It adds a piquant taste to fish and blends well with almost any acidic food, such as tomatoes. Used in excess, it can be bitter, but cooking mellows and deepens the complexity of its flavor.

Kedgeree (Kichri) is one classic dish where fenugreek is often found (our recipe includes both the Indian kichri and the British adaptation of it that has come to be known as kedgeree).
