Don't have time to make golden paste? Here is the perfect solution: pre-packaged shelf-stable golden paste, made to Doug English's recipe and enhanced with ginger. And if you don't care for ginger, check out the Golden Paste for Pets with Ceylon cinnamon, it's made with the same human-grade ingredients in a human-food-certified facility, but has Ceylon cinnamon rather than ginger.

If you're not familiar with golden paste, this is a highly effective way to add turmeric to your diet. Turmeric is a food, not a dietary supplement, and it is most beneficial when used as a food (as it has been for 4000+ years in India and other parts of Asia). The capsules sold as 'turmeric' are often not actually turmeric, only a high concentrated extract of one of its active compounds (curcumin). By itself, curcumin is poorly absorbed and quickly eliminated from the body, and of course, when you take it by itself, you lose the benefit of all the other active and supporting compounds in whole turmeric. Golden paste includes all of those, in a form that is easily absorbed and long-lasting in the bloodstream and tissues.

Use this just as you would homemade golden paste, starting out with no more than 1/4 tsp for adults and 1/8 tsp for small children. After 4-5 days, you can slowly increase the amount you're having until you see results with pain, stiffness, or any of the benefits turmeric is known for. Include it in or with food, for best digestion and availability of the active compounds. One caution: if you are taking any prescription medications, it's best to ask your doctor whether any of them would have interactions with turmeric, black pepper or ginger.

Golden paste combines well with acidic foods, such as anything that's tomato-based (spaghetti, lasagne, tomato soup or juice, V-8, etc). Many people like it also in coffee or tea. And if you like Indian foods, it's a perfect complement to any Indian dish. Golden paste also goes well with chocolate! So add it to your evening cocoa or chocolate pudding or other chocolate-based foods.
